Excavating, Holding, Linking: Through Line revisits An Animated Line in Red (2015), where the carved line excavates both surface and time through the removal of matter by using the subtractive method. Line now holds, becoming a hauntological conduit for ancestral presences carried through acts of channelled mark-making. Juxtaposing the carved line, which excavates material, with the conceptual channelled lines developed in Materialising the Undead, highlights the immaterial dimensions of matter within archaeology. Soil holds ghosts, linking ancestry held in material substance to its embodied counterpart within us.
